How Did Incite Originate| A comment By Michal Dance
A name identifies and appoints direction. It brings value and purpose for a specific time, it is one’s self-identity and is the beginning of a reputation. Up to now the name, ‘Church on Florida’, has given us an identity that has developed and grown from strength to strength. People from all over the city relate to this brand name in one way or another, however, in the same breath, the identity has been developed based on our physical location, and this can be a limitation, as it has not been given space to grow. Nor does it fully describe who and what we are.
A name that does not hold definition or meaning, leaves room for sub-conscious confusion and indirect purpose, in a time where the church community needs something to refer to and use as a standard. Holding significance in more than just a location and church building is important, so that we can build significance around the core values and beliefs in what God wants to do through us as a body in this appointed time.
We may have many questions like, ‘What is in a name, why is it important, and what does it actually mean?’ Looking into these questions, our hearts were impressed to delve deep into our identity which is based on our experience and desire for His consuming fire. In a recent word, brought by our senior Pastor, Pastor Craig Watson, he said The Holy Spirit told him that Sunday Nights are who we are as a church. Fire. Healing. And Worship. Going even deeper, we are a Word-based, Spirit-moved church of God.
Transformation is evident when you flow with the Holy Ghost. He constantly prunes the old and inspires the new. In saying this, we have not forgotten the past, but are embracing it to find strength in the future. Building on what we have already achieved and making our core stronger. With a new name, our core values, vision and purpose are being streamlined and re-focused.
In coming up with the name Incite, the word ‘fire’ was researched. It means, ‘To give life, vigor, or spirit to, ENCOURAGE, BRING TO LIFE.; renew, restimulate, resurrect, resuscitate, revitalize, revive.
While researching the synonyms for ‘fire’, we were led to discover and notice one specific WORD “INCITE”… WHEN FURTHER RESEARCHED we come to the understanding that Incite means…’to goad or inspire an individual or a group to take some action or to express some feeling. Incite and rouse are similar in that, although they can imply in some contexts abrasive or inflammatory arousal of violent or uncontrolled behavior, neither necessarily does so. Incite means simply to induce activity, of whatever kind: incited to greater effort by encouragement; incited to riot.
With the synonyms meaning the same thing:
Stir up, whip up, work up, encourage, fan the flames of, stoke up, fuel, kindle, ignite, inflame, stimulate, instigate, provoke, excite, arouse, awaken, waken, inspire, trigger, spark off, ferment, foment, agitate for/against;
Therefore the final meaning of the word Incite is:
1. To stir, encourage, or urge on; stimulate or prompt to action: to incite a crowd to riot. The transitive verb means: to move to action, stir up, spur on, urge on.
For many years we have believed in mobilisation and active participation. Faith brings about active change and is constantly working. Incite is a word that sums up our heart of our vision and compels movement – coming in for impartation and going out for direct ministry. It includes everyone, and excludes no one. We are the representatives of the kingdom of God and He desires that we take the kingdom of heaven by Force, not passively. The name Incite, impels hearts to live again. It encourages and stimulates action. We want to build a church on specific meaning and associations with movement in and out – symbolising a cycle of motion. We want to see the church community excelling and progressing, completely lacking nothing, and with a firm identity in Christ Jesus as our Lord and Saviour.
Our logo meaning:
The two boxes represent the church building, as it can be seen from a bird’s eye view. The lines that align up to the “n” are the open doors to the building, or church body. The constant flow from the word to the border around it creates a cycle – the movement we are inducing. The full stop is the finished work of the Cross. Jesus has conquered death and we are over comers. The final part of the logo is the word Incite, which symoblises the fire, passion and heart of God.
